Be Generous With Your Talents instead of Money
In part 3, I mentioned that you have to stop your money leeches and at the same time learn to be extremely generous in “kind”. So in this article, I will be expounding on that. Simply put, there are 3 lessons I want you to pick up today, here are the first 2:
- “Be generous to the deserving, NOT to the leeches; and
- “Be generous in kind with your talent(s) and skill(s) instead of money”
Let me explain these lessons a bit more and give you the 3rd lesson right after.
“Be Men and Women for Others”
I am a Xavier School graduate, and believe to my core the foundational element of Jesuit education worldwide which is to “be men and women for others”. This phrase, which was coined by Jesuit Superior General Fr. Pedro Arrupe in 1973 although self-explanatory, simply means to be the kind of person who knows how to help others at all times.
To expound on what I mean by being generous with your talent / skill instead of money, here’s another true story of mine when I was an employee at “Islacom” in the early 90’s
An office mate of mine whom I will call Joe (not his real name) with a wife and two kids was beginning to have an affair with another officemate. He was a very hard worker, a good father, and deep down a loving husband. Everybody in the office knew about it and was the main conversation during coffee breaks. So one day, I come into the office early and see Joe in his cubicle looking absolutely terrible. I go to my desk and a few seconds later, he comes over and asks me for a little advice, he was confused and miserable and was thinking of separating from his wife who he loves but has lost a little “spice” in his marriage. He asked me if he should do it.
This was my response: “Joe, I consider you a friend, and I will be very honest with you. You already know the right thing to do. All you really need to do is to be man enough to do it.” I put my hand on his shoulder and continued: “My parents got separated when I was barely 5 years old. I lived through that, and if I could tell my father one thing back then, I would tell him that Mom loves you very much, your daughter loves you very much, and I love you very much, flings and affairs will come, and they will go, what truly lasts is the love of your family. I didn’t have that chance when I was 5 Joe, so let me say it instead to you on behalf of your wife and kids…You already know what to do Joe, and you ARE man enough to do it.”
He thanked me after that and the next day, he broke off the affair.
You see, my God given talent is my eloquence, my “gift of gab”. I realized it early on in life, and I was extremely generous to Joe with it, someone who I believed deserved a happy life and a happy family.
That was 16 years ago, and my talent has quintupled since that day. My “gift of gab” has now reached thousands of people in the Philippines and abroad, I have been featured in numerous Magazines, Newspapers, TV and Radio shows which in turn have produced several extremely profitable businesses for me that run until today. But more important than money is that I am blissfully married to the perfect wife who gives me no reason for any kind of affair whatsoever (not that I would ever do that anyway) and together have a beautiful baby girl, the result of good karma coming back to me a hundred fold!
And so here’s lesson number 3:
- “Being generous with your talent(s) and skills(s) produces far more than just money, it also produces a BETTER LIFE”
So here are my assignments for you to do today.
Assignment 1: Comment on this article: In your comment, write down your number one Talent/Skill
Assignment 2: Find someone deserving and use your talent / skill to make that person happier today. It does not have to be money related. Email me your story at markso@wealthflowproject.com or post it here as another comment once you complete it. If you do, you will be another step closer to making wealth run after you!

Hi Mark! Very nice article.
Sharing is not new to me as I belong to a club with a motto “Service Above Self.” Sharing ones talent to help is one of the four avenues of our club service. It is called “Vocational Service.”
I salute you and the others participating on this project who will use their talent to help the less fortunate.
God Bless!
Thanks Ernie!

Hi Patty, thanks for the comment. Welcome to the project!
I have the time recently to read good self-help books and some articles. I knew it would be something that would interest and can help my family (hubby, brothers, sisters and cousin). Since I knew they are too busy at work, I would summarize key points and tailor it according to what I think they need. Hopefully, it help them somehow.
Great Job, that is a perfect example of how to be generous without using money. Keep it up.

Thanks Robert!
my talent is giving advise and analyzing situations in a lighter, funnier mode… i am critical to the extent that i shd had been an MTRCB Manunuri, however i find ways to give my friends advise without sounding boring and sound like a preacher.. i tell my friends who are too dramatic in life to get a GPS, everytime you ride your car, you adjust it to your target location, it gives you best suggestions and recalibrates itself when you pursue another direction due to traffic or sudden errands, it does not limit itself to a single option only…and the GPS starts its day with ” System Activated” (regardless of previous events)
Great job Tes! Keep it up

Wonderful website you have here but I was curious about if you knew of any discussion boards that cover the same topics talked about here? I’d really like to be a part of group where I can get advice from other experienced individuals that share the same interest. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Many thanks!

I simply wanted to type a small word so as to express gratitude to you for those superb ways you are giving at this website. My rather long internet look up has now been recognized with excellent content to go over with my co-workers. I would claim that we website visitors actually are definitely fortunate to be in a remarkable community with so many marvellous professionals with interesting suggestions. I feel somewhat privileged to have come across your entire web site and look forward to really more brilliant minutes reading here. Thanks a lot once more for a lot of things.
I’m impressed, I have to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you’ve got hit the nail on the head. Your thought is excellent; the problem is one thing that not enough individuals are talking intelligently about. I am very blissful that I stumbled throughout this in my seek for one thing relating to this.

quality post, I’m sharing it on FB!
Spot on with this write-up, I truly think this website needs much more consideration. I’ll probably be again to read much more, thanks for that info.
Great post!
again nice post sir mark. i still dont know my talent yet. pls help.
Lost down all the things you are naturally good at, look at the list and let your eyes gravitate towards one. Hope that helps.
Although not relevant apparent to money management, this is a nice lesson to read.
Oh but it is very relevant Faye. Please read it again. Best!
Extreme generosity in kind. Got it.
Yup, you got it.
Being there for someone just to listen is a language of love wherein you shared your precious time. Thank you for sharing the article. All we need to remember always is that we need to live for Christ and everything follows.
Very welcome Anj
Thank you for the lessons I learned. You made me realized that generosity can also be in non-monetary forms as sharing my time and talents with others. One of my talents is counselling.I think I am gifted with the patience to listen to others’ problems and the desire to help them in any way.
Share your talents Yllen, and it will come back in a form of wealth. Best!
Thank you for the topic sir Mark. The talent that God gave me is listening. I am grateful for that gift.
Ken
Very welcome Ken.
Friends say, I have a way of touching people’s lives. As my job entails, I meet random people. Most of the time, they will just open up and would begin to share their lives to me, some more personal than the other.
I love to teach and make people feel good about themselves.
Abundance comes in many forms and sharing them makes it twice the fun to enjoy it!
Thanks!
i am very persuasive,im good at public relations,im very interested on learning things like these gaining wisdom which would help on my everyday living.
To smile and have patience in caring for my patients, to listen, to capture people’s smile and make them feel good about themselves – probably those things.
Aside from my present occupation, I am basically good in educating people. This starts with more listening than talking, simplifying the subject matter and good multimedia presentation skills which I have developed through the years.
Many of my friends come to me for advices and instead of providing the solutions or answers, I make them understand their problem from a third person’s perspective – and let them come up with the solutions by themselves.
actually honestly this is my way of life , now i realize i may not be that rich but i have a better life ,maybe this a fruit of being generous…as a supervisor i have the chance of teaching my staff what i’ve gone through and i’m still praying that i can be of help to others in my own little way.
and i’m still willing to learn things that’s why i’m here
thank you
Great article. I love motivating people and helping them when they have queries.
Hi Sir!
I am able to confidently deliver a point without sounding argumentative or arrogant. I also like to listen to people and make them feel comfortable around me.
Good evening Sir Mark,
Per your above aricles, when I was newly hired guy in the company that I worked for so may years, I was left alone to fend for myself on how to creep into the intricacies / standards without any assistance ( being still a probationary employee ) but luckily I became at par but with a lot of nervousness and efforts to become a regular employee. Then on I made it a point to help and coach all new hirees ( though not in the ambit of my job description / function ) so that they would not have the same experience and much later on did the same when I was blessed to have subordinates. I was also very firmed but also protective of their welfare – as of to-date and by fate, some of them have out-ranked me ( but they still call me ” Sir ” even in official meetings ) and almost all of them, I know are very grateful because I have trained them well , even those who went to the US have written me ( thanking me ) because they found their job / task ” sisiw ” because of their disicpline and training. I hope I am not blowing my horns, I am just trying to comply with the above assignment… cheers
I love broadcasting and teaching – two gifts from God that i find fulfilling to nurture and impart with others bless you more Mark
I nee to sit down and examine what are my talents. What am I good at? Where I excel most?
this is a good article to read on. i have read your articles since a book recommended me to search for it and i find it interesting and am looking for new articles to read. i am learning on your articles sir mark and would like to learn more. my talent was to analyze things and prefer to write it down on a diary for me to think throroughly some sort of reflecting and writing has hepled me a lot. i had this another. talent which i discovered way back highschool about preaching and explaining things and my friends find it nice of me. glad to know this sir mark!
Hi Mark,
I’m truly blessed to read your blogs. I already practiced some of your recommendations but I just realized that I still have a lot of things to improved on especially on the subject on family/relatives/friends leeches. Since I’m very generous, many abused this trait. Then,I’m having a hard time collecting their debts on me. I will apply the things I learned from you and share these learning to others.
I love this article Sir Mark. I realized that it is not only thru giving money that I can help others. I got skills and time to share (which I think is more valuable than money) . Thank you for this reminder.
